The Denton County Crime Stoppers Program began in 1989 from the efforts of a group of Little Elm citizens who sought to combat drug abuse in their community. The Program now operates as an independent organization consisting of a board of directors comprised of citizens from all areas of Denton County. The concept has developed into a combination of efforts by local media, businesses, civic and social clubs, law enforcement agencies, and the public. Reward monies and donations of air time and newspaper space have established Crime Stoppers as an effective tool to fight crime in the Denton County area.

Crime Stoppers is comprised of diverse, active and dedicated community representatives. Crime Stoppers provides a method for local law enforcement to receive information on crimes. These efforts increase tips, which in turn increase arrests in our community.

The Denton County Crime Stoppers board of directors consists of volunteer civilians who represent a broad cross section of the community.  The board is responsible for determining the amount and method of reward payments as well as other duties that keep the program running smoothly.  Board members receive no payment or compensation for their time and efforts.  The program receives no tax payer support and is funded through money it receives through the court system as a condition of probation for people who have been found guilty of breaking the law.
